2. The Salt Spring Saturday Market
The Salt Spring Saturday Market in Centennial Park is in full swing, and many of the artists on the tour are "at the Market" on Saturday. If this is the only day you can be on the island, it is a great way to sample the various studios' wares, all in one place. The Market hours are from about 9 am until 2 pm or later.... if the weather is nice, many vendors stay late. For the best selection of edibles, though, you do need to get there well before noon! The Salt Spring Saturday Market is one of North American's top outdoor markets, with food, arts, crafts, entertainment and lots of socializing!
3. Season Changes for 2008
The Studio Tour now covers three seasons: Winter, Shoulder and Summer (Peak). A number of artists on the tour have commitments to shows and other seasonal events from September through June, and the extra Shoulder season comprising the months of May, June and September allows them to work these into their schedules more easily than in the past. The majority of visitors to the island come during the two summer months, so if you are planning a visit outside those times, just call or email your favourite artists and make an appointment with the studios you would like to visit.
