Salt Spring Vineyards is in full swing!

Summer has hit fast and hot, and Salt Spring Vineyards is in full swing. Our complimentary tastings of our all-local wines with SSI foods goes on. Lots of people are enjoying picnics in our lovely licensed setting, especially on Wed Fri, and Sun afternoons when we have live music. Local musicians often drop in to “jam” with the scheduled groups, esp sun jazz.

The 2009 vintage wines are wonderful and selling fast. All of our wines are now made totally from local island grapes or fruit.

Hope to see lots of you here enjoying our Island hospitality. The winery is at its best when friends and guests are having a good time.

Please click on the link for more information about Salt Spring Vineyards,

Ulrieke Benner – Art You Wear – Hosts a Workshop for Els van Baarle

SPECIAL EVENT

CONTEMPORARY SURFACE DESIGN

IN WAX AND COLOR

Featuring Els van Baarle
Netherlands

I am thrilled to be able to offer an out of the ordinary Workshop event!

3 days creating extraordinary  fabrics

June 18, 19 & 20, 2010

Join internationally acclaimed textile artist Els van Baarle on Salt Spring Island!  Explore, experiment and create incredibly unique fabrics.

Els has designed this workshop specifically for Salt Spring.

Els’ home is in the Netherlands.  She is a free-lance teacher and textile artist, who has had exhibitions all over the world and has been published countless times. Her works have been published in many books, magazines and catalogues.  Els has won many awards, her most recent prize was in 2008 from the Quilt Surface Design Symposium in Ohio USA, where she won ‘Best of Show.’

See more about Els van Baarle at www.elsvanbaarle.com

In this workshop students will use the tjanting and tjap (copper stamps) which are traditional Indonesian tools, to make contemporary, non-traditional fabric. You will practice layering wax-dye-wax-dye to achieve depth to make the fabric interesting.

Day One will be started on white pieces of fabric – mark-making with wax and brushes.  The tjanting technique will be used to make lines and dots.  This design is the starting point for Day Two.  Both waxed fabric and plain fabric will be dyed.

On Day Two you will work with wax, the copper blocks, and other items found in the kitchen.  The effects will all be different.  You’ll start printing with textile paints and develop a design using stamps, and using both dyes and paints.

On Day Three you will finish your fabulous pieces, by adding a final layer of wax and dye to make a dark background, and then ironing out the wax.

The fabric will be dyed with Procion MX dyes.  You’ll use acrylic paint for printing and will use soy-wax.

—————————————————–

The overall experience of this workshop is intensely personal and encourages you to be unlimited in creating your unique fabric art from within.

This special workshop will only accommodate ten participants, so you will receive specific and individual attention and support for each of your projects.

June 18, 19 & 20, 2010

Three days:  $495 (plus GST) and minimal materials fee.

All you need is an adventurous spirit and an open mind!  – Ulrieke

Art You Wear

Workshop Policies

My goal is to provide the most memorable experience possible in my Workshops.

As this is a special event, it is imperative that there be a full enrollment to the Workshop in order for it to take place.  Please register as soon as possible!  I can supply you with a list to help you with accommodations if you need one.

Full payment must be received in order to secure your booking, on a first come first served basis.  The number of students to this special Workshop is limited to ten.  Visa, M/C, PayPal (Ulrieke@ulriekebenner.com) or cheque is accepted.

The venue for this Workshop will be a country setting in a delightful private cottage, as Kathy Staples has generously opened her home to us.  Nature pure and inspiration galore will surround us in this tranquil garden setting.

Because of significant pre-planning and arrangements, I am unable to refund workshop fees upon cancellation, unless of course, the workshop does not take place due to insufficient registration.  In that event, all fees will be completely refunded.
