About the Artists and Artisans on the Studio Tour
Each year, a collective of professional artists on Salt Spring Island open their home studios, galleries and workshops to the public. The Studio Tour offers visitors a rare opportunity to meet and visit with artists and artisans, to watch pieces coming into being and learn about the processes, to shop in a fun, relaxed environment and to sample gourmet foods and wine.
Now in its 18th year, the Studio Tour is a "must see" for anyone visiting the island. It has been rated one of the top studio tours in North America, and what started out as a loosely-knit group of individuals has grown into an organization that takes the business of tourism very seriously.
Approximately 50,000 maps are printed and distributed each year to visitor information centres, tour operators, accommodations, ferries and local businesses. The demand for the map increases each year; it is recognized as an excellent island resource and is enthusiastically embraced by locals as well as visitors.
A few of the studios have been on the tour since the beginning, some for many years, and some are new. The roster changes slightly each year, so it is important that visitors have the current map.
